Identity Defender is the anti-phishing software component of Identity Defense Kit. Identity Defender is a toolbar that works with Internet Explorer to Prevent users from accessing known fraud and phishing sites, but also uses artificial intelligence techniques, which can recognize and block undiscovered fraud sites.
INAC's research department maintains a real-time database that tracks information on every available online fraud threat. As soon as our analysis team identifies a phishing or fraud site the database is updated and the Identity Defender users are "inoculated" against the threat automatically.
Identity Defender researchers collect phishing information from a network of 'Phish-traps' (e-mail accounts designed to attract phishing e-mails), users who report incidents of fraud and government and non-government resources around the globe. Each report is reviewed and added to the database if the threat is judged genuine.
Identity Defender Artificial Inteligence
In addition, the Artificial Intelligence component recognizes telltale signs of fraud. By analyzing items such as domain name, website content, geo-location information and common tricks that phishers play, the software will warn users before it is too late. E.g. if a user visits an website that uses IP address instead of domain name, doesn't use secure connection and contains financial keywords chances are that the website is a fraud-related website. Identity Defender will warn you as soon as you try to open such website. Identity Defender also shows where the website is being hosted - it is very unlikely that your bank is hosting its website in Nigeria or some other exotic country.
Identity Defender features two more layers of Protection - ID Safe and anti-pharming component.
Identity Defender ID Safe
ID Safe holds pieces of valuable information - last four Digits of your SSN or Credit Card number, first 5 letters of your password - whatever you decide to protect.
